- Who are you ? Can you tell us about you ?
My name is Vincent Cervoni. I am half French, ¼ French Corsican & ¼ Vietnamese.
I moved to Shanghai in 2012 as an intern for Sopexa at the end of my Masters before moving to Hong Kong in January 2014 to be the first Corsican Wine Ambassador in Asia / Oceania and set up the first office of the Corsican Wine Board overseas. . I also the Export Manager of eight Corsican wineries. My job was to promote the Corsican wine region, unknown in this part of the world and to find local importers for the wineries.
Since 2020, I have set up my own consulting company in the UK. My company provides Marketing & Sales advice to French wineries to build and implement export sales & marketing strategies in different regions of the world. My main goal is to help both wineries and our local importers to sell and re-sell wines and to increase the awareness of their wines abroad.
- What inspired you to work in wine business ?
I
studied in Bordeaux for my Master at Kedge Business School where I was the
President of the Student Wine Association. This is where I started to discover
and love wine. It became a passion which I have pursued as my job.
- What are the strengths of the Corsican vineyard ?
The
Corsican vineyard has many strengths in a world where globalization of tastes
is everywhere, including in the wine industry. Indeed, the Corsican wine region
brings really unique wines into the market. In particular:
1) Corsican wines are made from our
own indigenous grape varieties.
2) The vineyard is the smallest in
France, so you cannot find Corsican wines everywhere. They are more than wine; they
offer an experience.
3)
Corsica has also a really unique climate, very cool in winter and hot in
summer, which is unusual in this part of Europe. The wines are extremely fresh
compared to other Southern European wines.
4) The vineyard is also very respectful of the environment; more and more wineries are organic on the island.
- We don’t hear at all about sparkling wine in Corsica, Do you think there is a future for this here ?
We
produce some sparkling wines mainly from Muscat which are really good. However,
sparkling wine is a really competitive market. On one hand you have the entry
level with Prosecco and Cava and on the other hand you have premium wines with
Champagne. The costs are substantially higher in Corsica than in Italy and
Spain and we are not and we will never be Champagne…
- Which one is your favorite cuvée from Corsica ? Can you describe it for us ?
It is impossible to pick only one cuvée as Corsican wine are so different. There are about 30 different grape varieties. But my favorite red grape is Sciaccarello and Vermentino for white. I really recommend trying these wines:
-
Clos Venturi Chiesa Nera blanc (blend of Vermentino, Genovese &
Bianco Gentile)
-
Domaine Vaccelli Granit rouge (100% Sciaccarello)
-
Domaine Sant’Armettu L’Ermitte rouge (100% Sciaccarello)
-
Clos Canarelli Amphora blanc (100% Vermentino)
-
Domaine Giudicelli blanc (100% Vermentino)
-
Clos Teddi Grande Cuvée rosé (blend Sciaccarello &
Nielluccio)
-
Clos Canereccia blanc (100% Bianco Gentile)
- If you could only have one wine for the rest of your life, which one you will choose ?
What
a sad world! I prefer not to think about it J
- Have you one Corsican pairing to share ?
I love unusual pairings so I would suggest these two pairings:
- French pairing: An aged Domaine Vaccelli Granit red with a fish like perch with tomato, capers, dry herbs.
-
Thai pairing: Mango sticky rice with a Corsican Muscat from Clos
Canarelli.
